Regular inspection of your home plumbing pipes is an essential component of plumbing homeowner maintenance. You should have your pipes inspected at least once a year. Doing so will help you catch small problems before they turn into big problems that are expensive big headaches. As your plumbing system ages, plumbing problems become more common. If you're living in an older home, annual plumbing pipe inspection is essential.

Leaks

The smallest leak is just waiting to turn to a major plumbing problem. Most likely your plumbing pipes are the same age as your home. The older your home the more likely it is you have a pipe somewhere that is about to fail. If your home has copper pipes you have additional things to worry about. Copper pipes corrode over time and can start to leach chemicals and metals into your drinking water.

Tiny leaks don't drip. They accumulate moisture, mold, and mildew around the source of the micro leak. Mold is attracted to moisture and will grow wherever it is dark, damp, and moist. A leaking pipe is the perfect place for mold to grow and thrive. Under the floor and inside your walls are all spots where mold can spring up. Mold carries a musty smell and it is unmistakable.

Discolored Water

If your water does not run clear at the tap, contact us immediately. Rust inside your pipes will lead to orange colored water. Rusty water tastes bad. Rusty water leads to hard water which over time is very hard on your appliances (washing machine, dish water, hot water heater) . Rusty water will shorten the service life of your water appliances.

Pipe Corrosion

When pipes start to dimple or show flaking, they are suffering from corrosion. They need to be replaced soon before more complicated problems develop. If your water is highly acidic, over time it will eat away at your metal pipes. If you have copper pipes in a seasonal home, a home where the water is not used regularly, your piping is highly susceptible to corrosion.

Stains and Warps

If an inspection under your sinks reveals stains, it is a telltale sign of a sink water leak. Walls that are discolored indicate a leak inside the wall. A wall made of drywall can also bubble or crack when it becomes moist from a leak. If your ceiling is stained there is a leak somewhere above. Floors that are warped or stained indicate leaks below. Virtually any out-of-place stain indicates a plumbing leak that needs to be fixed.

Conclusion

Don't let small plumbing problems develop into big expensive problems. Regularly inspect your plumbing. Find and repair small leaks before they turn into big ones that extensively damage your home.
